If you’re looking for a Bridesmaids sequel, don’t get your hopes up.
It’s not looking like the 2011 comedy will be getting another installment, according to director Paul Feig.
As much as we adore the original, we are actually pretty happy about this. Sequels, in general, are so hit-or-miss, especially for cult classics. Why mess with a good thing? Plus, what other story is there to tell? The worst thing is for it to feel forced.<
This is exactly what Paul Feig expressed during an interview with Michael Che at the Tribeca Film Festival. Feig said,
“It’s really up to Kristen, but also, sequels are dangerous. People always say they want a sequel to Bridesmaids but the whole reason that movie worked was Kristen Wiig’s character is a mess and she learned how to repair her life, so you can’t do a sequel and she’s a mess and has to repair her life again. And people tend to think the artifice around all that is what made the movie great, but it was really that emotional journey and so, you almost kind of have to be careful of it.”
It’s really the comedy of Bridesmaids that people crave. So although we don’t want a sequel, we definitely want more movies from Paul Feig. From Bridesmaids, Spy, Ghostbusters, and more, we love seeing his work with funny ladies.
