If you’re already missing Pretty Little Liars, we’ve got some good news for you.
Deadline reports that Freeform has given a pilot order for a spinoff of the show starring Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish in their respective roles.
The show, entitled Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, will be produced by the same creators as the original series with writer/executive producer I. Marlene King, Alloy Entertainment and Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
The show is based on the book series The Perfectionists, written by PLL author Sara Shepard. I’m glad it’s based on a pre-existing story outline; I always hate when reboots and spinoffs appear like they are grasping at straws for a story.
Freeform’s Executive Vice President of programming and development, Karey Burke, shared her excitement for the new series. She said,
“Pretty Little Liars was a cultural phenomenon so it’s no wonder fans wanted more.We can’t wait to continue Marlene King’s rich and revolutionary storytelling with a new crop of leading ladies from Beacon Heights who will hold just as many secrets and lies as Rosewood did.”
Secrets and lies always seem to be a cable TV hit!
This is not Freeform’s first spinoff. They ran Ravenswood back in 2013, which only ran for one season. The network will also air grown-ish, a spinoff of ABC’s Black-ish, starring Yara Shahidi, in early 2018.
No word yet on when the show will begin production, and premiere. While you wait, you can catch Sasha Pieterse on Dancing with the Stars.
