Priyanka Chopra: Meghan Markle is So Much More Than Prince Harry’s Girlfriend

Priyanka Chopra isn’t here for the media’s sexism.

She’s made that clear in the past interviews, as an advocate for badass women supporting other badass women.

And now, she’s speaking up again in defense of her friend Meghan Markle. Markle was recently the subject of a huge Vanity Fair cover story, but Chopra pointed out a major flaw of the piece. It almost exclusively focuses on Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry. Marie Claire reports that Chopra had something to say about this. Priyanka said,

“I don’t know if I will get into trouble for this, but I have an opinion. I mean, she’s on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend. I’m just saying. I mean, she’s an actor, she’s an activist, she’s a philanthropist. I mean, she does so much more.”

It’s sad that Chopra should even have to worry that she could get in trouble for holding such an opinion. There’s more to Markle (and all women) than who she’s dating. It just seems ridiculous that her actual accomplishments are starting to be excluded in pieces about her simply because she’s dating a royal. Chopra also added,

“It’s just a little sexist. Look, I’m a feminist and I love boys, okay…The only thing I’m saying is that there needs to be a certain sense of equality where a woman is not just a plus one, you know. It’s nice to be your own identity too.”

CORRECT. Thank you, Priyanka.

You may recall a few months ago, Chopra was on The Wendy Williams Show and encouraged Williams to see Markle as more than just Prince Harry’s girlfriend. It’s good to see she is still standing by her friend and setting a good example even if it might get her in trouble.
