We’ve already heard a few teasers about how Riverdale season 2 is going to get darker and more intense. But did you know it’s also about to get… political?
According to Madelaine Petsch, aka Cheryl Blossom, the show is going to delve into some heavy-duty social issues. She told <emForbes,
“It’s important that we go back to the things we discussed in the last season and that includes a lot of social justice issues. We’re going into episode five next week of 22 and a lot of things happen in that episode that is very normal for people in high school. It’s important for TV to bring that to light, so I’m excited for people to see it.”
High school? Social issues? Kinda sounds like they got some inspiration from 13 Reasons Why and we’re not mad about it. We love that teen dramas are taking on more season issues and based on season one of Riverdale, we have a feeling they will handle any topic with total grace. They’ve already impressed us by the way they’ve blown up stereotypes and featured strong women.
Don’t worry, there will still be tons of light moments next season too. Madelaine also happened to mention that she’s getting a new love interest (who is presumably not her brother). She said it will end up being someone “nobody expects.”
The cast is currently filming season 2 so we have a feeling a few more spoilers will spill out over the next few weeks. Here’s to hoping we get another look at the new Reggie!
