I don’t think we need to remind you about that now-infamous Oscars flub. It’s mostly in the past now, and a lot of questions have been answered.
Except one: why was Ryan Gosling laughing when he found out his film did not win? The picture of him giggling during his Oscar defeat swirled around the Internet.
Well, we now have an answer from the man himself.
Gosling spoke at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas yesterday and cleared the air.
When asked about the situation, Ryan said,
“What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt. I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”
That makes more sense!
Gosling continued,
“Truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won It’s such a groundbreaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”
Agreed.
So no more questions, right? Can we stop talking about Cringegate 2k17 now?
But in all seriousness, it’s wonderful that we can move on from cringing at the incident to celebrating Moonlight for the beautiful and deserving movie it is.
