Shameless and Roseanne actress Emma Kenney had officially announced her decision to enter treatment.
She told E! News,
“I was being naive and very immature, and I was doing things I should not be doing because it was illegal and I’m not 21.”
“It was just a slippery slope that I did not want to go down. And I knew that I needed to stop it.”
Although the 18-year-old actress calls herself “immature,” I personally find it extremely mature of her to decide to seek help before things truly got bad. Not everyone is able to recognize they’re going down a bad path at the moment and it’s even harder to recognize that you need help.
In addition to entering treatment, Emma is following in Selena Gomez‘s steps by taking a break from social media. She previously announced this decision early in the month. She wrote,
“This sounds so cliche but this town/industry can really get to you. going to re-find my peace happiness.”
It’s also impressive that Emma had decided to go so public with her decision, a move that not all starlets are comfortable doing.
“I just want to send a message to my fans saying that it’s OK to admit that you need help, and it doesn’t make you weak. I’m going to come out on the other side, the True Emma that I’ve always been.”
Yes! It’s always ok to ask for help and you should never feel shameful about doing so.
I hope that Emma finds the help she needs. But it already sounds like she’s on the right track.
Emma will return for season 9 of Shameless later this year.
