Wow. Demi Lovato has made a reputation for being honest with her fans but this is a whole other level.
Demi released her YouTube documentary Simply Complicated earlier this week and everyone has pretty much been going bananas over her revelations.
Some of her ‘big reveals’ were pretty expected – like her open sexuality and her adorable first kiss with ex Joe Jonas. But what we never expected was just how far her addiction to cocaine had gone – even when she claimed to be sober.
“I would sneak out and get drugs, I would fake my drug tests with other people’s pee.”
Things got so bad that the singer feared she was overdosing.
“There was one night when I used a bunch of coke and I popped a few Xanax bars, and I began to choke a little bit. My heart started racing, and I thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, I might be overdosing right now.'”
Demi’s drug problems first came to the public’s attention when she punched her backup dancer back in 2010. She was on tour with the Jonas Brothers at the time and punched the dancer in the face during their flight to Peru. In 2011, she told Elle,
“When you punch someone on a plane, enough is enough.”
As Demi previously said, she didn’t get sober until her family and friends threatened to abandon her. One such intervention included her manager insisting she destroy her phone with all the contacts to drug dealers.
Since get cleaning, Demi has pretty much become a poster child for sobriety- but for real this time. Earlier this year, she celebrated 5 years of being sober.
