Even the biggest of Swifties are struggling to defend Taylor Swift’s 2024 Grammys red carpet look.
Taylor’s red carpet appearance was one of the most highly anticipated of the night — perhaps the most anticipated of the night — but unfortunately, her look was a let down to many of her fans.
Taylor walked the carpet in a custom Schiaparelli white strapless corset gown with black gloves and layered Lorraine Schwartz diamond necklaces.
She paired the outfit with wavy hair and a side braid and her signature red lip.
Fans were disappointed by the look overall, with her hair being particularly contested. Some of the Instagram comments on the account Taylor Swift Style‘s post (aka the unofficial official Taylor Swift fashion blog) included,
“Why do they have to do her dirty with her hair like that.”
“I hate it. The ‘hint’ looks are getting out of control and for gods sake would someone do something with her hair this is such a mess.”
“This fit feels like Taylor Momsen when she started to go emo on gossip girl.”
“Dress, yes. Everything else is so…hot topic. She went from subtle nods to her past ‘eras’ to cosplaying herself… it’s gotten bizarre.”
They’re not wrong, of course. The dress looks like a bed sheet that’s been somewhat artfully pinned and her hair looks like an oil slick. As if that weren’t bad enough, the hair stylist added a side braid that’s very Cara Delevingne circa 2014.
Taylor has worked with the same glam team for several years now. She started working with stylist Joseph Cassell in 2011, makeup artist Lorrie Turk since almost the beginning of her career, and hairstylist Jemma Muradian since at least 2015. Perhaps it’s time for a shakeup?
Fortunately for Taylor, her fans probably won’t dwell on the red carpet miss for too long. During her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards, Taylor took the opportunity to announce her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.
Taylor said her she had been keeping the secret for two years and the album is set for release on April 19.
Fans were undoubtedly shocked by the announcement, especially since Swifties were anticipating the singer’s next release to be Reputation (Taylor’s Version).
Taylor has been wearing several outfits recently that fans interpreted to be “Reputation-coded,” including her Grammys red carpet look (the hair especially seemed to be a nod to her Reputation-era music video for “Look What You Made Me Do”).
That said, Taylor has been known to pull off quite the juggling act. So the announcement of her 11th album doesn’t necessarily preclude the arrival of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) in the upcoming months.

In the meantime, Taylor has plenty to keep her busy. She’s preparing to perform in Tokyo February 7-10 and fans are hoping she’ll attend the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11 to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, who’s a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Taylor has been incredibly supportive of Travis, attending several games and often donning Kansas City Chiefs gear and Travis’ jersey number #87. At the last game, she rocked a WEAR By Erin Andrews x Baublebar Gold Kansas City Chiefs Dog Tag Necklace and an EB and Co. Kansas City Chiefs Jersey Ring,
