‘This is Us’ Chrissy Metz’s Weight is None of Your Business — So Why Do You Keep Asking?

This Is Us actress Chrissy Metz wants people to start see her for more than her weight.

Wow, it’s sad that I even had to write that.

Of course on the show, her weight and weight loss journey are a central plot point for her character Kate Pearson. But in case you forgot, the real Chrissy Metz is a dynamic, complex person like any one of us, and she’d like for people to stop focusing on her weight.

In an interview with the Today Show, Metz revealed the top question she’d like people to stop asking her: “Are you having weight-loss surgery?”. Because if you haven’t noticed, it’s a question she gets asked all the time, whether in interviews or on social media. Chrissy explained,

“Some people do feel like they’re my doctors and they have tried to diagnose me on the Internets, so that’s weird. ‘Cause like, I’m good. I’m good, but thanks. I’m good.”

Damn straight that’s weird. Since when has anyone’s weight or health been anyone’s business but their own? Just because her character is focused on weight loss doesn’t mean that it’s Chrissy’s actual focus. And even if it was, that’s still none of our business. She is a wonderful, talented actress, and that’s all we need to worry about.

With that in mind, Metz has also previously stated that she’d love to play a character whose storyline wasn’t focused on her weight or weight loss. There’s more to Kate Pearson than that, but still, it is a major part of her character. And we totally agree with Chrissy’s sentiment. Let’s see curvy characters whose plots and lines aren’t centered around their body shape.
