Mexican tourists have gotten the memo: The United States doesn’t want them. But their canceled trips will reportedly cost us billions.
For everyone who thought that Trump’s persistent racist comments were harmless, think again. The President has made many anti-Mexican comments, including his most heinous declaration that he wants to build a wall to keep Mexicans out of the country — and then charge Mexico for the bill.
According to The L.A. Times, lost tourist trips will come in at about $1.8 million, which will cost us about $1.1 billion. (This number comes from Tourism Economics, a global research firm.)
The newspaper proceeded to interview numerous Mexican citizens who usually travel to the states but have decidedly canceled all their trips this year. Many stated that they were choosing to wait until “anti-Mexican sentiments” died down.
The President of Metropolitan Assn. of Travel Agencies in Mexico City, Edgar Solis, said,
“They don’t feel welcome. In Mexico, there’s a dislike of the administration and that’s created a reduction of passengers to the U.S.”
Shocker, right?
But the real shocker, at least for Trump, will be that his racism is going to cost him — big. And for a supposed “business man,” that should matter to him, right?
Only time will tell.
