Twitter Suspends Rose McGowan for Speaking Out Against Ben Affleck

Twitter, you asshole.

After Rose McGowan called out Harvey Weinstein for sexually harassing her, and then subsequently called out Ben Affleck for lying about it, Twitter has suspended Rose’s account.

Um, wtf.

In case you haven’t been keeping up with the Twitter exchange, things got especially heated when Affleck released his statement on Weinstein’s assaults and implied he had no idea what his mentor was up to. Rose quickly tweeted back,

“GODDAMNIT! I TOLD HIM TO STOP DOING THAT’ you said that to my face. The press conf I was made to go to after assault. You lie.”

And now Twitter has suspended Rose, seemingly in an attempt to shut her up.

According to the message McGowan received, she must delete tweets that “violate their rules” and then her account will be restored in 12 hours.

This is such obvious misogyny, it’s not even funny. I’m not even going to bring up the fact that Twitter refuses to suspend Trump despite his (offensive) tweets breaking their “rules” NUMEROUS times. I’m not even going to talk about how they let proven assaulters like Weinstein and Affleck (there’s now video proof of this one) roam free on Twitter while they try to silence a victim. No, I’m not even going to mention those things.

And even if you disagree with me at this point, you have to admit that, at the very least, this is very bad optics for Twitter. And after watching their buddy Facebook deal with the PR mess that is fake news and Russia, you would think Twitter would try to keep their shit together.

Twitter owes everyone an explanation, and most importantly, they owe Rose McGowan a big fat apology.

Game over, Twitter.
